From 28th to 29th April 2026, Micro Enterprises Support Programme Trust hosted a Gender and Human Rights training for MSMEs under the Green Employment in Agriculture Programme (GEAP), bringing together 49 participants from implementation counties across the JKP, SEKEB,CEREB, NOREB, and LREB regional economic blocs.
The 2-day training, held in Nairobi and delivered in partnership with Tanager Ignite+ and Tymax, focused on strengthening participants’ understanding of gender equality, social inclusion, and human rights within agricultural enterprises and community initiatives.
During the training, participants explored practical approaches to promoting gender equality and inclusion, understanding human rights in business, and applying simple tools to support women’s economic empowerment and inclusive decision-making within their enterprises.
Facilitated through interactive discussions, illustrations, and group activities, the sessions covered topics such as gender mainstreaming, gender integration in business and programmes, governance and accountability, inclusive leadership, and practical strategies for addressing gender gaps within agricultural value chains.
Participants also discussed how gender norms can influence access to resources, economic participation, land ownership, leadership opportunities, and decision-making power. The training further highlighted the importance of creating inclusive policies, mentorship opportunities, and communication approaches that support sustainable business development.
The sessions also introduced participants to practical frameworks such as Gender Lens Investing
(GLI), the 2X criteria, and the Gender Action Learning System (GALS), which support inclusive planning, equitable participation, and women’s economic empowerment within businesses and households.
Through the GEAP programme, MESPT continues to strengthen inclusive and sustainable agricultural systems by equipping MSMEs and farming communities with practical knowledge and tools that promote gender equality, social inclusion, and shared economic growth.
