2nd December 2021 in Trans -Nzoia County, MESPT and the County Government have signed a memorandum of understanding on the modalities to implement the 5 years Green Employment in Agriculture Programme (GEAP), 2021- 2025 funded by DANIDA.
The signing between the Trans -Nzoia County Governor H.E. Hon Patrick Khaemba and MESPT CEO Ms. Rebecca Amukhoye was graced and witnessed by the County Deputy Governor Hon. Dr. Stanley Kenei Tarus and MESPT Board of Trustees Mr. Noah Meely (chairman), Ms. Irene Gathinji (vice chairperson) Mr. Mogens Strunge (member) and Thomas Were (member). MESPT and county staff were also present.
MESPT will invest in targeted micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Trans Nzoia County by supporting Export vegetables, avocado and indigenous chicken value chains. This engagement is expected to contribute towards accelerated decent employment creation in targeted MSMEs and improved competitiveness of the selected value chains in agriculture, consequently, transforming the economy towards greener and more inclusive growth.
Some of the investments will include, Business incubation and support, entrepreneurial capacity support and advisory services, creation of market linkages for farmers and MSMEs, Advocacy work at county and sector level, Digitalization and development of ICT-solutions to improve access to market information and extension services, Support MSMEs access to market infrastructure including but not limited to storage, cold chains, warehousing, and market standards certifications, financial access through development of competitive financial products that are relevant to FIs to facilitates engagement in the agricultural sector, Promotion of green economic opportunities for investment etc.
