MESPT Supports Farmer with Motorized Wheelchair
Ephantus Muriithi, a smallholder farmer from Ngenia, Laikipia County, has faced daily challenges due to his disability, which leaves him dependent on a manual wheelchair for movement. Despite this, Ephantus has remained committed to his work as a farmer, embracing regenerative agriculture practices on his farm. His avocado orchard, where he has planted 150 trees since the start of the Central Highlands Ecoregion Foodscapes (CHEF) project, an initiative supported by The Nature Conservancy, is a testament to his resilience and determination.

Through our Corporate Social Initiative (CSI), MESPT had the honor of making a meaningful impact on Ephantus’ life by providing him with a motorized wheelchair. This support will ease his mobility challenges, allowing him to move around his farm with greater freedom, reducing the strain on his daily life.

Ephantus has also adopted modern agricultural practices, including water harvesting and drip irrigation, ensuring the sustainability of his farm. As a member of the Laikipia Avocado Outgrowers CBO, he serves as a role model for other farmers in his community, proving that disability does not limit one’s potential to contribute to agriculture and economic growth.
At MESPT, we believe in transforming lives through sustainable investments. Every year, we remain committed to supporting initiatives that go beyond our core programs, uplifting communities, fostering livelihoods, and ensuring that no one is left behind. Today, Ephantus’ story is yet another inspiring example of how resilience and innovation, paired with the right support, can lead to meaningful change.
