MESPT signs contract with DANIDA to execute KES. 1 Billion Programme

On Tuesday 12th January 2021, MESPT signed a 5-year contract with DANIDA to support the implementation of a programme titled “Green Employment in Agriculture -(GEAP)”. The programme period is January 2021 to December 2025.

Through this programme, MESPT will work with 40,000 smallholder farmers in 12 counties of Kenya namely, Kilifi, Kwale, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Siaya, Kisii, Kakamega, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Makueni and Machakos. The programme will facilitate increased commercialization, decent employment, and green transformation in 7 agricultural value chains that include, Dairy, Export Vegetables, Mango, Avocado, Indigenous Poultry, Coconut, and Aquaculture.

The programme funding is to a tune of Kes. 1 Billion (70 Million DKK) and will contribute directly to Kenya’s vision 2030 and to one of the Denmark-Kenya Strategic Framework on accelerated decent employment creation in MSMEs and improved competitiveness of targeted value chains in agriculture which will contribute to transforming the economy towards a greener and more inclusive growth.
