MESPT, through the DANIDA-supported Green Employment in Agriculture Programme (GEAP), supported Keitt and Fawakin, two Kenyan agri-SMEs serving fruit and vegetable export markets, to participate in an international trade fair, Fruit Attraction 2026 held from 6 th to 8 th October 2026 at IFEMA MADRID in Madrid, Spain.
Accompanied by the GEAP team, the participating SMEs had access to a global platform bringing together producers, buyers, retailers and other professionals across the fruit and vegetable sectors, providing an opportunity to explore new business connections and export markets. The fair offered opportunities to connect with potential buyers, learn about market trends and explore innovations in fresh produce, agricultural technology and logistics.
Building stronger pathways to export markets
Participating in Fruit Attraction has contributed to expanding market opportunities for Kenyan fruits and vegetables. These engagements complement GEAP’s work to prepare enterprises for sustainable commercial growth. Alongside market linkages, the programme has provided technical assistance in financial management, food safety, data management and certification processes. Together, these interventions help enterprises strengthen their operations and respond to market requirements.
Connecting enterprise growth to farmer opportunities
For MESPT, supporting SMEs to access international markets is part of a broader effort to improve opportunities for the farmers supplying these businesses. Stronger relationships between exporters and buyers helps create demand for agricultural produce, while reinforcing the importance of consistent quality, reliable supply and food safety.
Across its supported value chains, GEAP had cumulatively linked 45,544 farmers to markets by June 2026. During the first half of the year, the programme facilitated the aggregation and sale of 33,211 metric tonnes of agricultural produce valued at approximately KES 1.84 billion. These results reflect the programme’s wider market development work, to which international trade fair participation contributes.
Through GEAP, MESPT remains committed to strengthening market relationships, supporting sustainable enterprise growth and promoting green employment along agricultural value chains.
